Job Description and Qualification:

Position Description
Job Title: Multi-skilled (Tile Setter/Block Layer/Plaster man)
Reports to: Supervisor and Site Manager
Job Purpose: The position requires multiple skills in Tiling, Block Laying and Plaster. Tile and marble setters install materials on a variety of surfaces, such as floors, walls, ceilings, countertops, patios, and roof decks. Tile and marble must be set on smooth, even surfaces, installers often must level the surface to be tiled with a layer of mortar or plywood. Also, ensure there is an adequate and competent bricklaying and block laying

Key Responsibilities
Tile Setter
• Responsible for installing tiles • Cut tiles using several different tools, including tile scribes, wet saws and handheld tile cutters • Lay tiles in evenly spread mortar, ensuring precision, clean edges and straight lines
Block Layer/Plaster man • Lays building materials, such as brick, structural tile, and concrete cinder, glass, gypsum, and terra cotta block to construct or repair walls, partitions, arches, sewers, and other structures • Measures distance from reference points and marks guidelines on working surface to lay out work
• Applies coats of plaster to interior walls, ceilings, and partitions of buildings, to produce finished surface, according to blueprints, architect's drawings, or oral instructions, using hand tools and portable power tools: Directs workers to mix plaster to desired consistency and to erect scaffolds
• Spreads plaster over lath or masonry base, using trowel, and smooths plaster with darby and float to attain uniform thickness
• Applies scratch, brown, or finish coats of plaster to wood, metal, or board lath successively.
• Roughens undercoat with scratcher to provide bond for succeeding coats of plaster.
• Creates decorative textures in finish coat by marking surface of coat with brush and trowel or by spattering surface with pebbles.
• May mix mortar
• May install guide wires on exterior surface of buildings to indicate thickness of plaster to be applied
• May perform maintenance work only and be designated Plasterer, Maintenance.
