We are recruiting for II-VI in Newton Acycliffe, Durham in the United Kingdom!

· Actively participate in technology/product development projects to deliver innovative process solutions and world class product performance.

· Working with production staff, engineers and technicians to provide support to wafer Fab manufacturing.

· Objective of minimizing scrap, increase yield, reduce cycle time, improve overall equipment effectiveness, minimize manufacturing costs and ensuring quality manufacturing within the given field of operation.

· Participate actively in the process and product development procedure such that the transfer of process and products from development phase through to production is completed successfully and on schedule.

· Proactively encourage means for cost reduction and lean manufacturing principles (8D, DOE, FMEA).

· Ensure appropriate tools, techniques and methodologies are being applied, developed and continuously reviewed.

· Establish process metrics and performance enhancing projects to meet business objectives.


Active role shall be played in yield improvement activities, working closely with device, yield and development engineers. Will demonstrate, through problem solving, new product introductions and continuous improvement activities an understanding of how variations in process conditions may affect product performance.

Support manufacturing line for resolving of process related issues in a timely manner ensuring any downtime encountered is minimal.

Monitoring of manufacturing data through statistical process control techniques to ensure excursions from the normal are reacted too quickly and countermeasures implemented to prohibit further excursions.

Must proactively identify and implement process improvements in order to increase efficiency, yield and reduce operating costs. Assist in meeting engineering group’s key performance indicators. Participates in projects to meet required department objectives or improvement activities, may contribute to establishing resource requirements, monitoring of progress and ensuring project deliverables.

Engineering technical needs, processes and procedures required to advance product and process development will be established through close liaison with other members of staff within the organization.

Proactive role in developing a positive safety and environmental culture to satisfy international standards.


Min 3yrs wet process experience in semiconductor manufacturing environment. Demonstrated ability to lead project teams and provide technical expertise and coaching to junior engineers and technicians. Experienced in equipment selection, commissioning and process set-up. Knowledge of scientific experimentation and analysis techniques. Knowledge of troubleshooting guides, OCAPs, working documentation, safety. Sound knowledge of all aspects of chemical handling & storage. Appreciation of EH&S legislation. Experience of semiconductor wet processes and equipment. Experience of semiconductor wafer thinning processes and equipment. Experience of selective and non-selective wet etch chemistries. Appreciation of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & ISO 18001 standards.


Strong analytical and problem solving ability. Appreciation of both practical and theoretical methodologies. Understanding of statistical process control techniques. Demonstrate creative approach to job related specific tasks. Capable of analyzing and presenting technical data. Ability to critically analyze schematic drawings and technical manuals. Competent with basic computer packages including MS Office. Ability to relate process information to device characteristics. Evidence of DOE, FMEA application. Understanding of change control and importance within a manufacturing facility. Proficient with use of data analysis software such as MiniTab or JMP.


Pro-active and capable of working without direct supervision Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Decisive, accurate, creative and forward thinking. Must have drive to achieve results. Prepared to be flexible in working hours to suit business needs. Willing to undertake international travel to support business needs where require.


Degree qualified in Engineering or Physical Science

Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma qualifications from recognized provider Must be willing to undertake further training and development as necessary.
