We are recruiting for II-VI in Newton Acycliffe, Durham in the United Kingdom!

- Develop, monitor and maintain dept Key Performance Indicators in line with internal and external customer needs.

- Manage the provision of engineering support to manufacturing line.

- Actively promotes safe working environment and culture by ensuring that EH&S standards and procedures are adhered to, and continuously improved.

- Undertake appropriate activity to minimize scrap, increase yield, reduce manufacturing time and minimize manufacturing costs.

- Provide timely feedback on Engineering trials and production data to Design, Development and Production.

- Take a proactive and participative role in the process development procedure to ensure the transfer of process and products from the development phase to production release is completed successfully and on schedule.

- Provide effective people management through the provision of coaching/mentoring and appropriate development planning to ensure the retention of key personnel.

- Ensure production staff and engineers are trained to the appropriate level to fulfil objectives.

- Prepare operating budgets to maintain engineering capability to support manufacturing. Maintain focus on cost control for all engineering activities and proactively encourage cost reduction and lean manufacturing principles.


Identify new hardware requirements to meet the developing process/customer needs. Ensure these requirements are addressed appropriately with regard to specifications, budget constraints, supplier identification and thorough evaluation. Develop testing strategy for conformance testing for all new hardware and ensure that all necessary risk assessments, documentation updates and appropriate training undertaken prior to release to production.

Provide and present technical reports and analysis to senior management and external customers in a timely manner.

Drive through yield improvement activities to achieve capability indices of greater than 1.5. This will be achieved by identifying appropriate processes, which will deliver high yield low cost product. Assess capability of these processes and identify manufacturing process window.

Develop and maintain positive working relationships with epitaxy, device and product, yield and development engineers to ensure yield improvement activities are carried through. Articulate through problem solving capability how variations in process conditions may affect product performance with regard to NPI and continuous improvement activity.

Act as driver for identification and implementation of process improvements to increase yield and reduce operating costs. Develop, maintain and monitor department KPI's and report accordingly. Review individual and team performance against department KPI's

Ensure engineers are developed appropriately and in line with the needs of the business. Establish development plans that will encourage retention and deliver competent technical capability whilst striving for individual continuous development. Conduct effective PDR's and monitor performance, accordingly, managing poor performance issues swiftly and effectively.

Liaise with all departments, particularly Development, with the aim of achieving advanced product and process development.

Play a proactive role in the development of a positive safety and environmental culture.

Take responsibility for working practices within the engineering group, establishing risk assessments for all related activities, be it process, or maintenance based.


Greater than 5yrs in process engineering environment within a development and production environment, including +2yrs in a management position Hands on experience of semiconductor processing tools Experienced in equipment selection, commissioning and process set-up Exposure to medium to long term projects. Knowledge of troubleshooting guides, OCAPs, working documentation, safety. Knowledge of quality systems and reliability assessment. Experience gained in semiconductor processing; ideally within a production environment Experience of applicable processes or equipment. Should have process know-how of more than one area. Experience of identifying hardware needs and generating purchase specifications Evidence of project management or leadership. Show evidence of contribution to business planning at a high level. Generation of such guides and documentation. Evidence of understanding development or production within a quality environment.


Strong analytical and problem-solving ability. Appreciation of both practical and theoretical methodologies. Demonstrate creative approach to job related specific tasks. Ability to critically analyse technical drawings and manuals. Understanding of statistical process control techniques. Awareness of budget control. Knowledge of scientific experimentation techniques. Ability to relate process information to device characteristics. Showing evidence of transistor theory. Understanding of change control and importance within a manufacturing facility. Evidence of SPC implementation. Establish group level budgets and subsequent control of. Evidence of DOE, FMEA application. Experience device technologies preferable, particularly related to requirements. Evidence for implementation of change control or working within such an environment at an influential level.


Pro-active and capable of working without direct supervision Project team working ability. Leadership qualities or potential to develop such skills in short timeframe. Good Communication skills. Decisive, accurate, creative and forward thinking. Must be driven to achieve results. Prepared to be flexible in working hours to suit business needs, may need to work outside of normal office hours. Able to demonstrate experience of staff supervision for period of> 1 year. Strategic thinking, taking into account industry advancement (external influences) and developing business policies.


Degree qualified in Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or Materials Science..

MSc or higher qualification 6-Sigma Green Belt or above Must be willing to undertake further training and development as necessary.
