Job Description and Qualification:

Scope of Position
A carpenter reports directly to Duty Engineer and Supervisor. Build, install, and repair walls and 
partitions, including drywall, wallpaper, millwork/molding, and faux finishing. Install and repair 
finishes, such as laminates. Perform rough-in framing for doors, frames, windows, and cabinetry. 
Repair, maintain, and construct wood structures such as partitions, doors, furniture, and similar 
items throughout the property. Perform miscellaneous minor repairs and patching holes in walls. 
Order items, including filling out requisitions, obtaining manager approval.
1. Departmental:
• Measures, marks, and arranges materials to established layout based on blueprints or 
instructions from supervisors.
• Cuts and shapes structures, forms, or other fixtures from wood, plastic, fiberglass, or 
• Uses various hand and power tools to securely build assigned projects.
• Joins materials with the most appropriate nail, screw, staple, or adhesive.
• Ensures the accuracy of work by checking completed projects with tools such as levels, 
surveying equipment, or framing squares; corrects problems as needed.
• Creates wooden forms for pouring concrete.
• Erects and dismantles scaffolding.
• Installs windows and doors.
• Adheres to local building and safety codes and guidelines.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Cleaning up supplies and replacing fixtures when project is complete.
• Respond and attend to repair requests.
• Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards, anticipate and 
address guests.
• Communicate with different types of people to comprehend what they want and to provide 
them with information and assistance.
• Check for new maintenance requests from the PMS (Property Management System) and 
update remarks once the task is completed.
• Update the maintenance work order form / Job card and file them.
• Prioritize and organize work assignments.
• Read and understand test equipment, measuring devices, and safety manuals.
• Clean, lubricate, protect, and otherwise maintain all tools and equipment in the hotel.
• Be available for any emergencies and act in an engineering capacity to protect guests and 
associates, and preserve the building and its systems during the emergency.
• Carry out specific oral and written instructions.
• Maintain maintenance inventory and requisition parts and supplies as needed.
• Maintain the hotel facility and related equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
• Communicate each day’s activities and problems that occur to the other shifts using 
approved communication programs and standards. 
• Use the Lockout/Tagout system before performing any maintenance work. 
• Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures; report any 
maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries
• To abide by all rules, regulations, policies, LQE, MOQA and Safe, Sound & Sustainable 
by Mandarin Oriental standards.
• To be responsible for retrieving and completing work orders as per policies and procedures 
in HotSoS.
• To be responsible for completing all work order from HotSoS prior to ending the shift.
• Complete safety training and certifications.
• Properly store flammable materials. 
• Attend meetings and trainings as requested
• Perform other duties as assigned by Duty Engineer and Supervisors.
Education & Certificates
• A formal qualification in Carpentry, repair, maintain, and construct wood structures such 
as partitions, doors, furniture, and similar items throughout the property.
• Hands-on experience in day-to-day maintenance of the hotel/ villas/ apartments/ cruise ship
• A minimum of 1-3 Years industry experience in a similar role in a luxury hotel or cruise 
ships is must. 
• Should possess an excellent command of English (written and oral) – Fluency in other 
languages will be a definite advantage
• Multi skill trade will be a definite advantage e.g. spay painting
